Privacy Policy

Information We Collect

PlainWarranty collects minimal data. We use privacy-focused analytics (Umami) that does not use cookies and does not collect personally identifiable information. We track page views, referral sources, and device types in aggregate form only.

Data Sources

All data displayed on this site comes from public sources: Better Business Bureau and Trustpilot (company reputation), state Department of Insurance and Attorney General filings (regulation and licensing), the U.S. Census Bureau (population and homeownership), and each company's published plan documentation (coverage and pricing). No private or proprietary data is used. No personally identifiable information from these sources is stored or displayed.

Editorial Independence

PlainWarranty's pages are compiled programmatically from the public sources above and rendered into readable company profiles, rankings, and state pages. We do not fabricate data; where a figure is unavailable from the source, the page omits it. The PlainWarranty team, is responsible for the site's standards, methodology, and corrections. PlainWarranty is informational and does not provide legal advice.

We do not accept payment, sponsorship, or promoted placement from any home warranty company, service-contract provider, or covered entity. Our only revenue source is contextual display advertising served by Google AdSense, advertisers do not influence which companies we cover or how we present data, and they do not receive preferential placement.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies

PlainWarranty does not set first-party cookies. However, third-party services used on this site may set cookies:

  • Google AdSense uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites.
  • Cloudflare may set security cookies to distinguish humans from bots.
  • Google Analytics (GA4) uses cookies to measure website traffic and usage patterns.

Advertising

We display advertisements through Google AdSense. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

Third-Party Services

Your Rights

Under GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), and similar consumer privacy regulations across other jurisdictions, you have specific rights regarding your personal data. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or your browser's tracking-protection preferences. You may request that any data collected about your visit be deleted by contacting our editorial team. You may also use browser privacy features such as Do Not Track signals, ad blockers, cookie-blocking extensions, and private browsing modes to limit data collection during your visit.

Because PlainWarranty does not maintain user accounts, does not collect email addresses outside of voluntary correspondence sent to our team, and does not store personally identifiable information from our public-record data sources, most data-rights requests are resolved by adjusting your browser settings or the opt-out controls offered by the third-party services listed above. We will respond to formal data-subject-access requests within 30 days as required by applicable law.

Data Retention and Security

Aggregate analytics data (page-view counts, referral sources, country-level traffic patterns) is retained for up to 24 months for trend analysis. Voluntary correspondence sent to our editorial team (data corrections, removal requests, partnership inquiries) is retained for the duration required to act on the request and to maintain an audit trail of corrections applied to the underlying public-record datasets. All data is stored on infrastructure protected by industry-standard encryption-in-transit (TLS 1.3) and access controls. We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Children's Privacy

PlainWarranty is not directed at children under 13, does not knowingly collect data from children, and complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and similar regulations. Home warranty content is intended for adult consumers researching service-contract purchases for owned or rented property.

Changes to This Policy

Material changes to this privacy policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. The current version is dated above. We recommend reviewing this page periodically to stay informed of how we handle data and what third-party services are active on the site.
